Fall trip to Churchill, Manitoba
Researching and monitoring polar bears in the sub-arctic regions near Churchill, MB.

Dates: October 25-29, 2019
This trip will provide students with hands-on research experience in a sub-arctic environment. Students will join Dr. Jane Waterman on a tundra buggy and help collect data to aid in the polar bear research being conducted.
Dr. Waterman is an Associate Professor in Biological Sciences at the University of Manitoba specializing in behavioural
ecology. She is currently working with the Assiniboine Park Zoo to integrate her polar bear photo-identification project into the new International Polar Bear Conservation Centre.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in the data analysis after the trip.
During the evenings spent at the Churchill Northern Research Centre students will learn about the local culture and history
of this northern community from a Dené and Métis perspective.
